Harvest 2019

That strange rendez-vous, every year, not at the same time, not the same day. But you know it’ll happen. You think about it for one year, but you don’t know how long it will last and what it’s going to give you.

The appointment this year started on the 12th of August, delayed for a couple of days, curious to see if the dry growing season would have made it special or difficoult.

You get to the vineyards that you think are ready but you stop when the others are not and then, the rain. A great late August rain that suddenly changes the schedule of the meeting. Rewind, waiting to re-create the right atmosphere.

Rainfall modifies the environment, changes the ripening cycle of the grapes and then it goes back to ideal conditions.

September, month of tourism, sun and land. Sun conquer all: Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Nero d’Avola still waits.

I can’t remeber such a long and intense period in my life as a wine grower. 12 of August to 4 October.

Now it’s still whispers time, when you taste newly made after-fermentation wines; no certainties, no doubts, just a lot of curiosity and you activate your memory to recall similar feelings and try to predict the possible developments.

Just one firm belief: you did your best at the given contingencies.

P.S.: after 2017 and 2018 harvests, this was still a great one!!!
